Troubleshooting & Measuring: Finding Your Perfect Trim Kit Fit

When installing Flair Smart Vents, the most important step for a professional finish is ensuring your adapter plate matches your home's unique ductwork. At Empyrean3D, we provide physical manufacturing for custom adapter plates and trim kits designed to bridge the gap between your smart vent and your wall or floor opening.

Our physical trim kits are high-quality hardware shipped directly to your door, specifically engineered to hide drywall gaps and unpainted edges.

How to Measure Your Duct Opening

To ensure a perfect fit, you must measure the duct opening (the actual hole in your wall or floor), not the outer flange of your current vent cover.

  1. Remove the current vent cover: Clear away any old registers to reveal the bare opening.

  2. Measure Width and Height: Measure the internal dimensions of the rectangular or square hole.

  3. Check the Perimeter: Note any nearby obstructions like baseboards or crown molding. Our physical trim kits generally add 1.5" to 2.5" of coverage around the vent to hide drywall gaps.

Empyrean3D Size Reference Table

Use this table to see the unmodified dimensions of our standard physical 3D printed hardware. If your duct opening is larger than the "Flair Vent Size" but smaller than our "Trim Kit Dimensions," our plate will hide the gap perfectly.

Bespoke Manufacturing & Large Format Prints

If your duct opening exceeds the standard sizes listed above or has a unique shape, our physical manufacturing service can accommodate custom requests.

  • Maximum Footprint: We can produce individual physical prints up to 16.5 in x 16.5 in.
  • Custom Sizing: If you need a size adjustment to match a specific vent register size, we can modify our designs to your exact specifications.
  • Material Integrity: We use professional-grade materials designed to withstand the temperature fluctuations of modern HVAC systems without warping or degrading.
